Albuterol Generics

Hey asthmatic friends. I'm sure y'all have noticed that there are like so many generics for albuterol inhalers. I have heard from a lot of us that a lot of the generics have various problems. I have two albuterol inhalers. I wanted to share what I found interesting. So, one of the inhalers I have is white and it has a circular mouthpiece, I don't like it because it's white and I can't see when the medication has built up because of it, however this one has never clogged. My other one is dark blue and has a green cap on it. It gets a lot of medication build up after just a few uses. I have heard from another asthmatic that I know that she only uses Ventolin and that I should too. I'm curious do you think it makes a difference? Also, the people who make these generics do not seem to have the patient they are making them for in mind like the brand names do, which really makes me mad. Anyone else?

  1. I only use Ventolin or a generic version of it because some others have side effects and some others don't work at all.

    1. Another great question. I hope you keep asking these questions, as they certainly do get us thinking. Of course, as with many of us asthmatics, I personally prefer the brand Ventolin of the albuterol inhalers. Along with knowing the medicine will work, the inhaler delivery device is well designed and also has a counter. That said, I have tried many generic albuterol inhalers over the years, and believe that the medicine works fine, but sometimes the delivery devices are flawed. Still, for me, the price of generics albuterols is so much less than the Ventolin brand albuterol that this makes up for any flaws. And so usually you will see me with a generic albuterol. And that's my humble answer to your great question. John. asthma.net community moderator

      1. I like asking questions haha I've been told I've asked a ton of good ones here and I don't plan on stopping

      2. We love to see it! lol. -Melissa, asthma.net team

    2. I have used Ventolin in the past and currently my insurance only covers a generic albuterol inhaler. My inhaler is white with an orange cap. I am too lazy to look at it right now. The Ventolin felt like it was stronger and I could inhale it easier into my airway. The generic seems to work but I don’t “feel” it when I inhale. I am the guilty party that does not use a spacer but I have worked on my technique and really feel I get better results without it or maybe I think I do because I can “feel” it when I inhale. I have had to use my inhaler a bit more frequently this week. I have had a cough. It feels like an asthma cough and I have had several negative Covid tests. Pretty sure it is ragweed stirring up my asthma. My generic albuterol inhaler has been working well and giving me relief when needed. I still prefer the Ventolin.

      1. yeah same

      2. The ragweed has been really bad in my area too. I'm in AL near the MS border. Thank God the humidity has started to drop. My eyes were burning the other day, really bad. So did my husband's and he doesn't have asthma. (He's lucky in that regard). Taking Claritin in the morning seems to help some, as well as staying indoors as much as I can.

    3. I have generic levelalburtal and generic advair Generic advair
