allergic "bronchitis"

I have had pollen and ragweed allergies for years, controlled prophylactically with antihistamines..with occasional bouts of a bacterial bronchitis during allergy season. I am afraid, now over 70 yr, that I may be developing more of a chronic problem, like asthma..Should I be referred to pulmonologist. (right now I have rheum and primary care).

  1. Hi. Welcome to the community. I see you just joined up yesterday. Thank you for your post and for your great question. It sounds like you have done a great job of managing your allergies. I would think, that if you are concerned about how you are feeling, and suspect that it might be asthma, a checkup with an asthma specialist like a pulmonologist would be a good idea for you. If you do not have asthma, then you will have that reassurance. If you do have asthma, I am certain a pulmonologist can help you improve your symptoms so that you feel better overall. Does this help? 1. Hi there! Welcome to the community. I hope that we can be helpful to you as you try to figure out what's going on. It sounds like you're having new symptoms, or worse ones than what you usually had during allergy season, right? I agree with John that there is no harm in visiting a pulmonologist -- the goal is good health and peace of mind, and getting checked out by a specialist is certainly a stepping stone to both of those things. Did you ever call for an appointment? Please keep us posted and we will be here to support you with whatever choices you decide to make. Hope you feel better soon! Thanks for reaching out to us. -Melissa, asthma.net team
