Asthma

Well, I guess it was bound to happen as I was born prematurely. My lungs didn’t develop properly and any type of virus I got them left right and center. But now I am older and hit the 50 mark. I realised I was not able to do the things I used to. But I grew up in a household where ppl were smokers hence the secondhand smoke so that wouldn’t haven’t helped either. I am on 2 inhalers, long and short relief. I had a spirometer test done a few years back and had the lungs of a 65-year-old. Now I have been diagnosed with lipoedema in my legs. So having 2 chronic illnesses has me bang-jacked. So I just take each day as it comes. I realise that I am going to have both good and bad days. Once you come to terms with this that is half the battle so my advice is to be gentle with yourselves and do what you can and remember to look after yourselves. I love going to the cinema as time out and also in the middle of this I was looking after my mum who has MS. She starting to use a wheelchair and that is so hard on my chest. I ended up in the hospital a few weeks back with high blood pressure, prob stress too. True saying your health is your wealth.

    1. I love the balanced and healthy perspective you seem to have -- taking the good with the bad and trying to make the most of it. That's all anyone can do. Also, my heart goes out to you for the caretaking role you've assumed for your mom. It's not an easy time but I am willing to bet she's grateful for your help. Keep taking good care of yourself and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. If you're interested, we also have a site for people with MS and their loved ones. You can find it at www.multplesclerosis.net. Maybe that will be useful for you, too. We're all here to support you! -Melissa, asthma.net team
