CBD Oil for Asthma Treatment

I had a very interesting discussion today with an aquaintence who's husband is a fairly serious asthma sufferer, and how he has been able to slowly remove his maintenance medication from his treatment in favour of CBD oil twice a day. I did some reading up on it and there seems some favorable studies done on this, with the anti inflammatory and relaxation properties of CBD having a significant affect on the respiratory system. I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter and if any of you have tried it and if it helped.

  1. Hi. We have had various conversations on this site about CBD oil and how it may affect us asthmatics. And while there is no cure for asthma, CBD oil may sometimes be tried as a compliment to your current asthma regimen. Although it is always recommended to talk to your asthma doctor before trying anything new. If you are interested, we do have an article on this topic. I will post it here if you are interested: https://asthma.net/natural-remedies/marijuana . John. asthma.net community moderator.

    1. Hi John, thank you for the link to a very interesting post. I was chatting to my aquaintance again this morning and she said the product her husband uses has an amazing affect by opening up his chest and helping him to breathe deeply. She gave me 3 little doses to try, which I will do over the weekend. I have used CBD before for pain for a shoulder injury, that was so painful that I could not sleep, so I know it works and doesnt have an adverse affect in me. During that time I am not ashamed to say I used one that had a fair amount of THC, which numbed the pain without the adverse affects of long term use of strong painkiller medications. The one I am trying now does not contain any significant THC, so it will be interesting to see how it works. I will report back next week.

      1. That is so neat to hear that your friend's husband finds relief from that product! Let us know if it is helpful for you. I found a thread for alternative medicine (https://asthma.net/forums/alternative-meds), where some comments discuss THC/CBD. All the best, -Ashlen, Asthma.net community moderator

    2. Hi Ashlen,

Thank you for the extra links. So far I have not find any articles on the net that are against medical cannibis, in relation to asthma, so it is definitely worth more investigation. I tried the product given to me and I cant say either way whether it worked well for me, but there were no negative side affects. I think I may need to wait until my next allergy season in March/April to test it properly. i will let you all know my findings. i would very much like to find a more natural alternative to my extremely expensive cortizone maintenance inhaler.

      1. Hi Jules, thanks for the follow up and providing further information. Please check back in with us after your allergy appointment in the spring. I'm curious to hear what your doctor has to say about the use of CBD. It's so interesting to learn real-time about CBD. Thanks for sharing! All the best, Lauren (Team Member)

      2. Hey Jules -- when you do finally give it a try, you may want to write about it in the Stories section of the site, since this is bound to be a popular question and lots of people will see your experience that way! Of course, that's only if you feel comfortable. Here's the link if you don't know where to find it: www.asthma.net/stories

Fingers crossed it's helpful for you! I found that CBD made me a bit anxious -- not sure how much of that was mental, though. -Melissa, asthma.net team
