Go for the allergy shots

I suffered with my dog for over 14 years with allergies. My allergies go so bad they triggered my asthma. My primary care doctor told me it was just outdoor allergies but after my dog passed, I started breathing better. I missed my dog and after a year decided to get another dog. Needless to say 4 hours after getting my dog I had a severe asthma attack. I went to see an allergist and got tested. Yes, I am allergic to my dog and also cats, horses, hamsters, and guinea pigs. As well as dust mites, and moles. I have been getting my allergy shots since January ... 3 times per week. I am now on maintenance and boy do I feel great... So don't delay, get tested, and go for the shots. Most insurance plans cover this, which really makes you feel better.

  1. Hi , and thanks for sharing your story with the community. Being a dog lover myself, I understand just how you felt about your dog, and then the feeling when you lost your dog. Yours is a real success story about managing this disease (asthma/allergy), in collaboration with your doctor to a successful conclusion.
Of course to be able to have another faithful companion while, at the same time, keeping your allergies in check is to be commended. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks Leon. I just want others to know going for allergy shots is not so bad. They DO work.

      1. Hi again, 6872123 - it's my pleasure! I think it is important for our community members to share their experiences here (both good and bad!). It is a large part of what our online community is all about!
I also think your own personal story underscores how you are not only successfully managing your allergies/asthma but, also able to enjoy (as in ENJOY!), the companionship of a wonderful dog!!
        Have a great weekend!

    2. you too. I agree with you. Sometimes someone else is going through the same thing you are and not knowing what to do. If we can help someone by sharing our experience with others why not.
And yes we are blessed with a wonderful dog. I would NEVER give him up. Just remember what dog spelled backward reads...

      1. Hi again, 6872123, and thanks for acknowledging my comment to you. I have found that so many of our community members appreciate how candidly we share personal experiences. You hit the proverbial 'nail on the head!' The whole idea is to be helpful to one another. We always feel better knowing we are not alone with our disease - that others are going through very similar situations in their lives.
I know what you mean about spelling, too!
Here is a photo of ours, named "Latka" - she found her humans (in us), and we filled the void in our home!
        Warm regards,

    3. So adorable. I want to kiss her... I hope Latka likes potatoes...( hee hee)

      1. That's pretty funny, 6872123 - I am laughing out loud here!
You are welcome to give her a virtual kiss anytime!!
We are sticking to feeding Latka only dog food. Over the December holiday season though, we made an awful lot of (home made) latkas and, the dog had a funny look on her face throughout the day! (You can imagine the conversations: "pass the latkas", "do you want applesauce or sour cream on those latkas", and, "these latkas are delicious!!"😉
        Warm regards,
