How have your asthma symptoms changed over time?

Have any symptoms disappeared, or have new ones come up? Share the journey of your asthma symptoms over the years.

  1. I have had Covid 6 times in the last year and a half. It has definitely exacerbated my asthma

    1. I'm sorry to hear this. Is there anything that you are able to do to help? Are you on medications? -Lauren (team member)

    2. gee Lauren, COVID 6times ? Do you work with the public? I worked in Pharmacy I got COVID Three times, I had influenza H, Bacteria pneumonia, PE Blood clot on the lung, ShaDow on the lung all in the pst three years.
Before this time I only had allergy Asthma. I have been so sick I had to give up work in the pharmacy, I am at retirement age now but I did plan to work a few shifts a week for extra holiday money,I haven’t been anywhere but pharmacies and doctors, I am fighting so hard to get better.

  2. Might be auto immune ; lupus and Sjögren’s. Seeing infectious disease Dr soon

    1. Yes, it's definitely unusual. I hope you can get some answers and hopefully find a way to protect yourself from future infections. If it does end up being lupus (and of course I hope not!), we also run the website www.Lupus.net. We're all happy to help if we can. Keep us updated. Best of luck! -Melissa, team member

    2. I have both Lupus and Sjogren’s, along with connective tissue disease. I find my immunology doctor and his team are my best resource.

  3. I'm not sure if any new symptoms have shown up but unfortunately my symptoms seem to be a bit stronger now than it was many years ago. I do wheeze a decent amount, particularly late at night or early in the morning. My sister nicknamed me "The bird" as she said that I sounded like a bird when I would wheeze.
I do clear my throat quite a bit on days that aren't as good. I also sometimes feel some tightness in both my chest and back. I also just feel fatigued and tired sometimes because I am working a little harder to breathe. Those come and go but I do know that I am in trouble when I start coughing. That's like a late warning sign that I need my rescue inhaler. It's also tough at times to take a real deep breath.
I make sure to take my controller inhaler twice a day and stay healthy as getting a cold for me seems to go to my chest and linger for a few weeks. As long as I can keep it under control and not let symptoms progress for a while I can manage my asthma well.

    1. yes, I always carry a rescue inhaler with me.

    2. Thanks for following up. I'm glad to hear that you keep your rescue inhaler with you; although, I hope you don't need it often! -Lauren (Team member)

  4. I started with asthma in my 20's. I am 72 now. Yes it has slowly and progressively gotten worse. I have many broncitis infections usually 2-3 times a year. Two years ago had phemonia. It was then they did a MRI and said I had a spot on my lung. 3 months later it was gone. However the infections have destroyed most of my left lung. I always bring up yellow stuff. I still get infections so I try to stay away from crowds. I had to use a nebulizer since 2007. Once in awhile i use it now. Breathing is more difficult in cold or hot weather. I get tired more often as well. I'm retired but my neighbor does my mowing. Scents bother me more, smoke, humidity, dust, mold. and the change in weather like rain. I never know when I will have a coughing spell and I am on 2 medicine's or inhayers. They do help yet again not.Today it's one day at a time. I can still keep my home and drive my car. I go to the store as well. The antibiotics have gotten stronger. After awhile they don't work any more.

    1. That's really hard to deal with ... I'm glad there are some things you can still do and that you have the help of your neighbor as well. Have you had pulmonary function testing recently? Do you feel like you're getting good support from your doctors? Keep doing the best you can, we're here for you. -Melissa, team member
