Can asthma cause permanent lung damage over time?

So i had a runny nose and shortness of breath for months and medication didn't even help. Well, i finally figured out why i was allergic to a damn laundry detergent! Honestly, it took me so long to figure it out because my mom usually washes my clothes. Anyway, i switched to a free and dear laundry detergent and whala my nose no longer runs and my breathing is back to normal. Im a little worried know since it took me 4 months to figure it out if it may have caused some permanent damage to my lungs?

  1. Hi mike - thanks so much for your post! So glad to hear your 'detective' work enabled you to determine it was this allergy that caused the symptoms (runny nose and shortness of breath). Good work!
While we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), I have something to add based on your concern. It might be an idea for you to check with your physician. Since you exhibited symptoms for months (as you've shared), which may have gone untreated, you may want to see your doctor for an assessment and evaluation. That should help to put your mind at ease and help to determine the present condition of your lungs.
    What do you think?
