Pine tree trigger?

My asthma has been uncontrolled for over 2 years. We’re trying to find a good med combo, but I’m constantly “tight”.
This week, while in Northern MN, I had 2 major attacks and the second one landed me at urgent care.
I did notice that as soon as I got out of the car when we arrived in MN, my nose started draining…eyes were watering and my chest got tight.
My question….can allergies actually trigger an attack?
I already take Allegra -D, montelukast, advair, have a rescue inhaler (which never stops an attack) and am on prednisone pretty consistently.
I’m wondering if allergy testing could help with asthma. I’m LOST

  1. Hi Larann, and welcome to our online community! I see you became a member earlier this evening and we're glad to have you here.
You may be aware, we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), but your concern certainly warrants a reply.
Generally speaking, the answer is 'yes', allergies can trigger an asthma attack for some folks. You may want to discuss this further with your physician(s). The doctor(s) should be able to guide you as to what is actually responsible for your asthma episodes. I understand, from what you've shared here with the community, this may be posing somewhat of a challenge, since your history goes back for over 2 years. It may be an idea for you (and your physician), to consider allergy testing in your case.
    What do you think?

    1. Hi. Sorry to hear you are "constantly tight" despite having your diagnosis for two years and being on some good asthma medicines. I would concur with my colleague that allergy testing may be something worthwhile to discuss with your asthma physician. If it turns out that you do have allergies, this may open some new avenues for your attempts to pursue ideal asthma control. Wishing you all the best. John. asthma.net community moderator

      1. Hey there! It stinks that asthma symptoms have made a damper on your trip. Allergies and asthma often come together, so it is definitely worth looking into with your care team. At the very least, it'll give you more info about your personal health, which is never a bad thing. 😀 You also may want to visit our sister site, Allergies.net. They will likely have much to share with you as you start to work all this out, just like we will. Take good care of yourself and keep us posted! -Melissa, asthma.net team
