Too Much Albuterol

Hey guys...i find that my Albuterol makes my asthma worse...it does relive the attack...but I end up having to use my inhaler 3-4 times a day with psychological side effects....shakes and tremors and depression...any one else deals with this ?

  1. Hi GreatWhite and welcome! I see you are a new member here having joined our community just a few hours ago. We are glad to see you are already engaging with the members by starting a conversation here in the forum section.
I am hopeful others in the community will see your inquiry and respond by sharing their own experiences managing this disease.
I also have something to contribute.
As you may be aware, asthma affects everyone differently. As well, therapy and medications' effectiveness can vary considerably from patient to patient. Having said that, there are some patients who experience adverse effects from medication. In some cases, the medication can actually have an 'opposite' effect from what is expected. (Do you think that may be what's happening to you?)
Some of the untoward effects you've mentioned (shakes, tremors, depression), are fairly well known.
Generally speaking, when this sort of situation occurs, the doctor will usually work with the patient to find an alternate medication (regimen) that will be more efficacious for each individual patient.
    What do you think?

    1. Yes I'm having real bad shakes, tremors, depression, mood swings and I take it so often I have withdrawal symptoms when I don't take it

      1. Your bodies addicted to oxygen i understand albuterol is harsh, im glad i almost never need it now that my asthma is under control., i take it everyday and that reduces the damaging inflammation. Please talk to your doctor about getting a control med so that you don't have to use albuterol very often if ever. I highly recommend seeing a pulmonologist.

        1. I simply meant that we require oxygen to live , a bit tongue in cheek. I did feel euphoria when I finally got treatment for my asthma it wasn't the med. It was just the novel sensation of being able to breathe like a normal person. Getting all the oxygen I needed from the air was like a high.

        2. I hear you, CM953155, and understand now. I very much appreciate you clarifying your comment even further. It's always good to have a sense of humor, especially when it is 'tongue in cheek!'
It's understandable just how good you felt being able to take a deep breath - I am so glad you were able to share that with the community now.
          Keep up the good work!
          Warmly,

      2. I take a control med everyday.

        1. - So very glad you joined the conversation, and grateful you offered up this tidbit of info. This may be an option for . Once they speak with their physicians, as Leon suggested, a treatment and action plan may be created. There are several different kinds of meds such as rescue and preventatives medications that may be more effective, especially since albuterol seems to have adverse effects for him/her. It's all about controlling and managing the best possible way and it seems GreatWhite is unmanaged currently seeing there are issues with shakes and tremors and depression. I sure hope they can get this under control sooner than later. How is your med working? Are you mainly controlled with the preventatives? Rebecca (comm advc)
