Is a Warmer Climate the Answer to My Health Conditions?
I have had a getaway planned for months now and now it has come and gone as quick as a flash! Before I went away, my body was in real trouble. At home, I had become sick. This caused my body to go into meltdown mode. My asthma was terrible and my skin not much better. Waking up in the mornings had been the hardest thing. My body has never worked very well.
Struggling with my health at home
There is always something going wrong even when I am well. I am like an old battered car that has only the one headlight lamp working and the indicator stalk has snapped off. I might be able to stumble from A to B, but going from C to D is another story! In all honesty, I was expecting my health to plummet. It always does when the seasons change. My immune system finds it difficult to adjust and if I get a bug on top of that, well it's goodnight Vienna!
I feel a bit of a twonk writing about my health issues at present. What with all the troubles happening in certain parts of the world right now, they pale massively into complete insignificance. I know I am extremely privileged growing up in the UK where healthcare is free. But my problems are still my problems. Growing up with allergies, asthma, and eczema, has been extremely stressful and has caused me to live quite a restrained life.
Flying to a warmer climate could be my answer
I think my ace card to healing quickly is flying to a warmer climate. Where the air doesn't feel stifling- and the water hard and chalky. Where there is not too much greenery. No pollen to attack my lungs. No traffic fumes to clog up my airways. Where there are no stresses of the everyday working life.
I have just spent 7 nights in Fuetavenruro, the Canary Islands. The climate was absolutely stunning. The temperature was around 30 degrees celcius with a gorgeous blustery breeze that kept me nice and cool.
I spent most days in the sunshine, in and out of the sea. It's like my body went, "Oh right, this is where you belong Pete". Honestly, within a few days, I could start to feel myself getting better. It was magical.
If only the doctors could prescribe a week away to everyone who suffers from chronic conditions. The difference it would make to people's lives would be great.
By around day 4, I felt on top of the world. My asthma symptoms had completely gone away and my skin was looking vibrant and shiny. Even my hair looked more healthy. There was a silky sheen to it. My eyes looked healthier. Particularly the whites of my eyes.
However, I started to feel strangely anxious because I knew my time was running out. I had to make the most of this. And I did.
