"Asthma acting up"

  1. Hi ACTONE, and thanks for your post. I'm sorry to hear the asthma is 'acting up' for you now. How are you planning to manage this? Are you able to treat yourself at home or do you plan on seeking medical assistance?
Please let us hear back from you - we are concerned for your health.
    All the best,
    Leon (site moderator asthma.net)

  2. Hi Leon, Appreciate your concern!
Ive decided to give acupuncture a try & have secured an appt for tmw. Im afraid my faith in conventional medicine is not very strong when it comes to this condition. Ive been on various inhalers for several years now, but the results have been spotty at best, & as per my primary care doc, traditional medicine really doesnt know what causes asthma. Hence the acupuncture visit, as Ive read some asthma suffers have had positive results with this type of treatment.'ll keep you updated if you like on the results. Thanks again.

  3. I again, ACTONE, and thanks for your prompt reply and further explanation. I hear you! In my experience, some patients have found an alternate approach to conventional medicine and therapy has been a positive experience for them.
I certainly hope your plan to be treated by an acupuncturist makes the difference for you as well.
Please do check back and keep us apprised of your progress with the new treatment. I would very much appreciate that.
    Good luck!

  4. Hi there! By now you've probably had your appointment -- let us know how it went! I thought you might be interested in seeing our wide collection of articles on the topic. Some of our advocates have used acupuncture as well, and the articles share both pros and cons of the treatment.

  5. Thank you! Ive only had 1 session so really too soon to tell. As an adjunct to the treatment, I was given herbs to take as well, but had to stop them on advice of acupuncturist due to my condition becoming exacerbated shortly after the session (it was pretty bad prior as well). Wheezing became so intense that I was forced to visit a local urgent care facility to make sure it wasnt anything more serious, which turns out it wasnt. Although this asthma thing which came very late in life (Im 73), is serious enough if u ask me! It's gotten particularly intense the past 10 days or so & am baffled as to why, although many of the locals here in Atlanta hav been claiming this is a bad time for allergies, what with the leaves turning & beginning to fall. Anyhow, my next session is Friday (10/1), after which I hope to resume the herbal treatment & will pray the acupuncture treatment itself will also yield some relief. I will keep you posted for sure...thanks again Melissa!

  6. Hi again ACTONE, and thanks for providing this update. We appreciate your keeping us apprised of how you're doing with this type of therapy/treatment.
I will wish you 'good luck!', on your second appointment with the acupuncturist this coming Friday (10/1).
We will look forward to hearing back from you again.
    All the best,
    Leon (site moderator asthma.net)

  7. Had my 2nd acupuncture treatment yesterday & was also instructed to resume the herbs. Interestingly my recent flareup has been most acute at night when laying prone in bed. In fact Ive been forced the past couple of nights to sleep in an upright position. so as to be able to breathe well enough to sleep. However, during both my 1st & 2nd treatments while laying prone on the treatment table (needles & all), Ive had no trouble at all breathing....& we're talking laying there for nearly an hour/session! Unfortunately, so far, this positive development hasnt continued since last night the breathing issues returned at bedtime & once again had to try & sleep in the sitting up position. So I guess the results at this point appear mixed at best, & the flare up which started some 10 days ago, has unhappily continued unabated. Hopefully, with continued session & the herb therapy, the condition will eventually improve, as the treatment is still in it's early stage.

  8. Hi again, ACTONE, and thanks for continuing to keep us posted as to the progress and early results of your acupuncture experience. As you've shared, it is early in the stage of treatment. Did the acupuncturist provide you with any time frame during which you can expect to see an improvement?
We'll be here to listen as you move forward with this therapy.
I will wish you continued good luck!
