Is it possible to have a good lung function test and still have asthma?
It was time for a lung function test. The last one 8 years ago I was given 2 inhalers, Singulair and Albuterol. My meds worked for 7 years. My PCP changed my meds and I have been good. The previous several lung function tests were not very good, hence the ER visits and meds. I have had asthma for almost 40 years. My new pulmonologist read the report and said I do not have asthma and I have a cough due to GERD. When I have an attack I cough nonstop until I take to vials of emergency nebs. I am completed confused by this response with no explanation except I just have a cough.

Hi ddjevans and thanks for your post and concern. The short answer is 'yes', one can have asthma and still have good pulmonary function test results. I hear your confusion and frustration at having a (new) pulmonologist tell you (after 40 years), that you no longer have asthma. My suggestion would be to speak with this doctor in detail and at length so (s)he can explain the statement and how it specifically applies to your condition. Thank you. I am currently on Breo, Spiriva, Singulair and albuterol/impratropium. My PCP prescribes prednisone when My lungs are congested and antibiotic. Very confusing hearing this from a new pulmonologist that gave me 5 minutes of his time. Without the nebulizer I am not sure how well I would do during an exacerbation.
I saw my PCP today and she is in agreement with me. She said, because I am consistent with my meds, I am not exposed to many triggers since I retired, so not have a cold she would expect it to be good. I will not be seeing that Pulmo doctor again. She will send me to a different hospital. Thank you for your support and suggestions

Been diagnosed with asthma two wks ago was on orange inhaler and ventolin inhaler. Had stop orange was giving me sore mouth. Was back at docs yesterday going for xray today cos I still wheezy. Got steroids orally and ventolin and stomach tabs
