Why do I have a metallic taste in mouth during asthma attack?

Whenever I have an asthma attack I have a metal taste in my mouth. What will make me have this?

  1. Hi and thanks for your post and question - it's a good one! Somehow, I noticed (after these few years), that there has been no comments or responses to your concern. I do have something to contribute now, if it's not too late.
As you may be aware, asthma can vary from patient to patient. Asthma affects everyone differently. Having said that, it is also true that folks have different responses to treatment and therapy. Some medications can cause a side effect which may cause a metallic taste for the patient. This naturally, does not affect everyone.
Were you ever able to determine what caused this for you?

    1. Hi - Thanks for the great question! My question to you is - do you have issues with asthma and GERD? I've heard that acid reflux can cause metallic taste. Or even excessive phlegm during an attack can result in that metallic taste. As Leon stated above - it could be medication giving you that taste. I've also heard that stress and dehydration are culprits as well. Do you notice it only during a severe attack, or always during exacerbations? Curious to see what others have to say about this. With warm regards, Rebecca (community moderator)
