Are any of you on prednisone full time?

I was put on prednisone almost 2 years ago now and haven’t been able to get off of it. I’m currently taking 4mg daily. Just curious how common this is and dosages tend to go up or down? Has anyone gotten off of it?

Hi nurselpn84 and thanks for your post. Sometimes it’s equally important to remain on the medication in order that your breathing can be controlled. Is this why you’ve been kept on the steroids for 10 years? Wishing you the best, Leon (site moderator)

Thanks for your message. Sorry that you’ve been on it so long. Are you on it full time? What dose are you on? I know everyone is different…but it’s nice to talk someone going through the same thing.

Hi CMorg and thanks for your post and inquiry concerning the use of prednisone. I see that Christine has provided a link to a good review of prednisone usage by one of our contributors.

You may find it interesting to learn that some patients who are on long term oral steroids, are weaned from the oral medication gradually and transitioned to inhaled corticosteroids. If you haven’t already, this may be something you’d like to discuss with your physician. Please do check back and let us know how you’re doing.
    All the best,
    Leon (site moderator)

Hi CMorg, I am sorry you have had to stay on prednisone for so long. I hope more members of the community are able to share their experiences with you. I did want to share this article which discusses one of our contributors experiences with prednisone and slowly tapering down the dose: https://asthma.net/living/draft-the-roller-coaster-ride-of-tapering-prednisone/. Thanks for reaching out here. Thinking of you, Christine, Asthma.net Team Member
