Humidity Is the Worst

After moving to the East coast, this Alaskan girl has discovered how humidity makes a huge difference in my health. Over the last two years of living in Maryland, my asthma has continually gotten worse. I've gone from forgetting where my rescue inhaler was, to having two different inhalers and on prednisone. At the time of this post, I'm on prednisone that I've been unable to taper off of three pills a day without causing a bad rebound attack. I didn't realize how bad humidity would affect my health. I knew it would make my hair crazy. When we moved I thought that I could just live with the humidity, but my body is not cooperating so well. I think we will be moving back to the desert.

What are some alternatives to prednisone that other people use? I'm not a really whiney person, I'm disappointed that I can't stay here in Maryland. It's so beautiful here, and I hate the heat of the desert. If only I could talk my husband into moving back to Alaska.

I swooned when I was in Maryland due to the humidity and definitely had a rougher time breathing. The humidity in the summer there is something else!

I had similar problems as you're talking about with my asthma until I finally got an allergist doctor and he prescribed Singulair. It's one little beige tablet each day turn on most days I am symptom-free. Unless of course I get by some strong chemicals like bleach, or other chemicals. Before Singular I was in and out of the ER with asthma issues. I also found that getting a pneumonia shot every five? Ears also helps. My asthma is extrinsic rather than intrinsic, meaningless things on the exterior of my body like chemicals that affect my asthma and things that I eat rather than things that are inside my body that causes my asrthma. I was diagnosed at age 30 after having my second child. It seem to change everything and I all of a sudden became allergic to metal also on my skin. Never did have asthma as a child

 Hi, chattycathy! Thanks for sharing your experience. It must have been strange to hear that you had asthma for the first time when you were 30. I'm glad that you did get a diagnosis, though. It's so much better than not knowing what's going on! Good to hear that Singulair is working well for you. pollution also bothers my asthma a great deal. We moved from the polluted Area north of Seattle and moved to Brookings Oregon. We are right next to the ocean and that ocean breeze keeps the air very clean here and I do much better with my asthma.

 <inline-mention username="chattycathy" user-id="3031360"/> I can speak personally about improvement in both my son's and myself asthma when we relocated from a polluted area to cleaner air. Also, shellzoo have you tried air conditioning and using humidifiers. Clean regularly. I put mine by my bed.
