Something You Never Forget

There's never a day where I can just forget that I have asthma. Some days are worse than others of course. But I am almost never able to just have an adventure without packing my bag full of asthma tools. My puffer has become my best friend as my asthma attacks have increased due to cold and a weak immune system. While asthma runs in the family nobody knows what it is like to be me.

For so many in our community, asthma is always uppermost on their minds, just as you described, and so you are not alone, either! I, too, remember that, for years, my asthma medications accompanied me everywhere. Sometimes, in more challenging times, I would only be able to get through the day with my hand wrapped securely around a rescue inhaler in my pocket. It gave me the confidence to get through the day, even if I didn't need it! I hear you! It would be an ordeal to pack up my meds just to go for an outing for me, too. Even just going to an appointment requires that I take asthma meds along just in case i can't get home as soon as i thought I could. I believe that being able to breathe is always at the back of an asthmatic's mind. I also feel that many people who don't have asthma (me included, back when I rarely had symptoms) take breathing for granted. It would a positive step for us if non-sufferers would realize what a blessing it is to simply be able to breathe without the need for medication--perhaps that realization would bring about empathy and more support for us? Having asthma myself, has made me especially grateful that medications have been developed that can help me breathe! I am also grateful that I do not live where I may not have access to medical help. I feel so blessed to be able to breathe and that I have doctors/medical help available to help me. #soooograteful.

Thank you for sharing how asthma has been a factor in shaping your life. You sound like you have gained some good insight. Asthma is a chronic disease and so it goes insight and inner strength can grow. And, yes I have 3 inhalers. Next to my bed, in my purse, and my vehicle. And I don't even have a "bad" case just a few bad scares. Best Wishes K
