Inhalers

  1. Inhalers are as close to a constant as there is in the asthma community. What are your thoughts, experiences, questions? Metered? Dry powder? Rescue? Spacer? Facemask? Valved holding chamber?

Here is the editorial board article on inhalers: https://asthma.net/treatment/inhalers/.

Here is one of our expert contributors, John Bottrell, with his take on every asthma inhaler: https://asthma.net/living/opinion-every-asthma-inhaler/.

Give us your take. Looking forward to the conversation. Richard (Asthma.net Team)

      1. Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place but I wanted some opinions/help. I've had asthma since 2005 and have had a rescue inhaler that I have used when I have wheezing/trouble breathing, today, for the first time ever, I've gotten a sore throat after taking it, is this common? My nose was runny before which I think could have caused my sore throat, I also took some Imitrex for a migraine just an hour or two before my inhaler.

        1. Hi plantedtogrow. Sorry you are having this difficulty. Various medications and inhalers can certainly have sore throat as a side effect, although it is certainly interesting that it has just now started. For your protection, we cannot give medical advice over the internet. Any new potential side-effects should be reported and discussed with your doctor.

You also mention a runny nose and many have certainly developed throat irritation from sinus drainage. Also you may want to take a look at this article from our editorial team looking at sinusitis and upper respiratory infections: https://asthma.net/triggers/viral-infections/.

Hope you feel better soon and keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (Asthma.net Team)
