Asthma Treatment

Medical waste disposal

  • By Concetta

    Hello all,
My mother is undergoing Asthma treatment and doctor has prescribed Omalizumab injection for her. Now she is feeling much better. Her wheezing and breathing problem has reduced. I need some suggestions on how to dispose those injections. I’ve heard that they should be disposed with care. Also found few article with such kind of information http://www.gorillabins.ca/blog/precautions-to-be-taken-while-disposing-medical-wastes/.. But it seem to be complicated. Are there any simple method to dispose them safely??

Hi Concetta and thanks for posting your question. Disposing of medical waste is a challenging task. Medical facilities, doctors’ offices, and free standing laboratories all deal with it. They have strict guidelines and there are detailed regulations for them to follow in order to dispose of the medical paraphernalia (syringes, gloves, needles, etc.) in a safe and responsible manner.
Although the volume you generate at home, while caring for you mother, is no doubt smaller, there are still safe practices for you to follow. My suggestion would be to contact the physicians who provide your/her care as a starting point. After that, you may want to look on the internet and see what local guidelines you’ll need to adhere to. Once you’re all set up, I don’t think you’ll find it’s unreasonable.
Please check back with us and let us know how you (and she) are doing.
    All the best,
