Silent/Invisible Symptoms

Coughing and wheezing are common symptoms of asthma, but they definitely aren't silent. Some people have said they experience shallow breathing, frequent respiratory infections, yawning or sighing, difficulty sleeping, etc. What are your silent asthma symptoms and how do you manage them?

  1. Chest tightness is often my first symptom, I use an albuterol inhaler to try to open it up. I also found fatigue is asthma's codependent. Trying to breath, even thinking about breathing, can be exhausting.

    1. Hi , and thanks for joining in this conversation regarding silent / invisible symptoms that may be associated with asthma.

You make good points, especially referring to both chest tightness and fatigue. Many of our community members have shared their experiences with these symptoms, so you are definitely not alone!

What are you able to do when you are feeling this way? How do you get past it?

      Wishing you well,
      Leon (site moderator asthma.net)

  2. Never wheezed, always tightness in my chest, fatigue. Hot tea with raw honey, hot shower with a little eucalyptus

It would seem you've learned quite a bit about this condition (asthma COPD overlap syndrome - ACOS), and able to manage it with your own intuition and self awareness! Keep up the good work!

Nice to hear you and your daughter are close and managing all this together. There is nothing like family for support!
