Weather Changes and Asthma

When the weather turns how do you manage your asthma symptoms? What kinds of weather trigger your asthma?

  1. My asthma is triggered by cold, dry air- during winter. When it starts I keep warm, stay inside more, and enjoy warm drinks and showers- the warm vapor helps much! And of course, adjust my medication as needed and get the flu vaccine.

    1. Hi WheezyMe and thanks for your post. It sounds like you have a system for dealing with the cold weather and asthma.

      1. My asthma is triggered just by changes- we have always suspected changed in barometric pressure. Wednesday was cold- I was under control. Thursday turned to warmer (from 30s F. to 60 F.) and I woke up wheezing. I had to do several nebulizer treatments over the day as well as using my rescue inhaler. Friday we are cold again and raining and I am better. Overall I am better in summer and worse in winter (NE Ohio) but changes make me worse than anything.

        1. Hi Katbird and thanks for sharing your experiences here. Many in our community have expressed similar sentiments when talking about weather changes and their asthma. Some do well in the cold, others in the warm weather. Some tolerate high humidity, some prefer low humidity. Everyone's asthma is different. Once you understand your own, it's easier to manage and control it.
