Hey,
I'm new to this forum. I have a concern to share. I have severe asthma during the winter season, especially in December. There will be difficulty in breathing and major coughing. Now that I feel horrible back pain dont know whether it is a side effect of asthma. I'm under physical therapy now. So the therapist said that maybe it was due to the strain that occurred in the muscles that support the spine.
Did anyone feel the same?

I’m relatively new to asthma too and mine is seemingly worse in cold, damp weather. I produce more mucus and this makes me cough and clear my throat a lot … which in turn irritates my upper back, between the shoulder blades. I consider it a side effect of the coughing.

What wonderful news! That's really impressive. I bet it is such a relief to be breathing easier now. What do you do for exercise? I'm so happy for the update and I hope that you stop by and visit us occasionally, even if you're feeling good. We're always happy to see familiar faces around here. 😀 -Melissa, asthma.net team

Hi matthew, and thanks for your post. I see you are new to our online community, having joined just yesterday. Welcome!
For many with an asthma diagnosis, the disease can be accompanied by coughing, which is often times quite vigorous. Others in the community have shared anecdotal experiences regarding pain which they attribute to the bouts of coughing they have had.
Do you think this is what has happened in your case?

can you suggest some daily practices to enhance breathing health.

Hi healthcare, and thanks for your post and question. When it comes to pulmonary disease (like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)), there are several breathing strategies one can employ to help their own breathing pattern.
First, you may be interested in this article, which focuses on various breathing strategies themselves: https://copd.net/living-with-copd/pulmonary-rehab/breathing-strategies. It is published on our sister site, COPD.net. There are additional articles posted there, should you be interested. If so, just let me or any other moderator / team member know, and we will be happy to guide you.
Second, I thought you might find it helpful to look at any of these articles, published right here on our asthma.net community website. These speak to various ways to approach managing one's asthma disease: https://asthma.net/search?s=breathing%20strategies.
I do hope this material provides you with the type of information you were looking for when you posed your question.
Thanks,
Leon (site moderator asthma.net)

Hi all, I just wanted to make a comment about back pain and asthma. I find that when I am about to have an asthma flare, and sometimes at night, when my chest gets tight, I get a serious pain in my back between the shoulder blades. It is not related to a lot of coughing, and normally eases after using my rescue inhaler.
