Asthma and Dental Anesthesia???

I have to get a lot of dental work done, and I will be put under deep IV sedation, I wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience and if I will need to have a spirometry or other test done beforehand. I know the dentist or anesthesiologist will tell me, but I wanted to know so I can be prepared since my consult isn't until the 24th. Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you think there's anything I should be concerned about regarding my asthma? It's mild intermittent intrinsic asthma

  1. I'm going to tell you my story. I was scheduled to have one of my wisdom tooth pulled but the pandemic hit & everything lockdown, then need more work done. I got vaccinated made my dental exam appointment but in the process was diagnosed with asthma. I needed oral surgery & root canal done; I talked to both dentists that was doing the procedures in advance & they opt not to use sedation but I did use my rescue inhaler before the procedures. You shouldn't need any breathing test done before or after. You're going to need somebody to take you home after because you'll be drowsy but everybody is different when it comes to being sedated

    1. Yeah, I'm definitely going to do that, what I was looking for here was more like, someone who has been through the same experience

    2. Hi Wild Tech - I understand and, I am hopeful others in the community will see your post and respond by sharing their own personal experiences.
My post is not intended to preempt their joining in the discussion. I just wanted to ask if you had in mind to discuss this further with your physicians and dentist. I see that is your plan.
I will tell you that over the years, I have had several dental procedures for which I needed sedation. It all went without a hitch. As well, during other procedures (gastrointestinal, colorectal, and urological), the sedation provided to me went smoothly as well. From my perspective, collaborating with one's doctor(s) makes all the difference! Having G-d as a co-pilot is also essential!
      Wishing you well,
