Been fighting the fight since I turned 40.

Been fighting the fight since I turned 40 yrs. old.
Thought asprin was for the weak up untill that point.
Broke some ribs and wound up being miss diagnosed for a few years as all of a sudden having allergies and asthma.
Turns out I was refluxing acid into my lungs all day everyday, sitting, standing or trying to lay down.
Was saved by a Great Doctor but she has since retired.
I have been to National Jewish in Denver multiple times. Which I have had great success with.
Now 60 years old ,I have been forced to sell my bussiness due to my inabillity to participate and lead.
My question is now they say my trachea is collapsing when ever I have an "event".....which is getting to be more often than not.
Anybody else ?

  1. Hi, - thank you so much for sharing your question with our community. So glad to hear you found a doctor that was helpful, and so sorry to hear she retired. Having to switch doctors after finding one we love is one of biggest challenges to living with chronic disease.

This is not my area of expertise, so I'm hoping other community members can help, or that our moderators who are also RRTs can jump in and offer some guidance. Please keep us posted on how you're doing! ~ Lorene, site moderator

    1. Hi, Bruce. I'm glad you're here -- so sorry for all you have been through and the ways your misdiagnosis impacted your health. While we wait for others to respond, I wanted to share this article with you that deals with airway collapse.

Do you feel like this is what you're experiencing? Has your care team offered up any suggestions for management at this point?

We're here to support you. Take good care of yourself. -Melissa, asthma team
