Itchy Lungs - I Am Not Alone!

I get this around dust (though after 14 years of allergy shots, my retests showed I'm no longer allergic... though I’m still highly allergic to molds, and the spores hitch rides on the dust). Such an odd feeling, internal itching, that no one (not my allergist nor 2 pulmonologists) could explain or have heard of. Mine feels a bit more central than spread all over lungs... almost like it’s my windpipe or just the main 2 bronchi. I also have suffered from allergic fungal sinusitis (4 sinus surgeries, sigh), so I am religious about my nasal irrigations. As soon as I get that itchy lung feeling, I irrigate, and it settles down. Cleaning out a dusty closet last weekend and here we go. My combo inhaler literally has saved me from relying on albuterol, but shots, antihistamines, and irrigation doesn’t seem to get rid of those allergies (which, of course, cause asthma flares). I would think the lung itch has to be histamine-related, but what else can I do? So glad I found this forum. I immediately told my husband about the itchy lung article as vindication for my ailment. LOL. Just glad innovations in medicine have allowed my adulthood with asthma to be a 180 from my childhood with it in the 70s and 80s!

  1. I get itchy twitchy feelings too! And when I start coughing, out comes the albuterol or nebulizer.....

    1. Hi there, thanks for chiming in! Do you find that the albuterol and nebulizer work well for you? I sure hope so! -Lauren (Team member)

    2. they usually do help, the nebulizer is better than the rescue inhaler.
