cardiopulmonary test

Has anyone ever taken a cardiopulmonary stress test? Since I had Covid about 6 months ago, I enough energy to get myself through the work week along with increased shortness of breath and chest tightness (all symptoms of my asthma) Whether or not the symptom increase is in fact related to Covid is not as important to me as improving my symptom control again. I have severe asthma and currently take trelegy, singular and Nucala. After a negative CXR and PFT, the doctor recommended a cardiopulmonary stress test. I have never had this test and I don’t know much about it. Can anyone share their experience and whether or not the test results helped the MD improve the symptom control?

  1. Hi , and thanks for your post and question - it's a good one! While I am hopeful others in the community will see your question and respond, I have something to contribute here.
You have already had both a chest x-ray and a pulmonary function test (PFT), both of which yielded negative results, which is good. In order to be thorough, it sounds like the doctor is suggesting a cardiac stress test to rule out the heart, as being responsible for your symptoms.
I thought you might gain some additional insight for your concern from this article (from the Mayo Clinic), which addresses the cardiac stress test: https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/stress-test/about/pac-20385234
My thought is that once the doctor rules out everything else, he will then focus on gaining more control over your asthma symptoms.
    What do you think?
