What should I know about cold exacerbations?

I experienced it after the Flu. I want to know more about cold exacerbations.

  1. Hi , and thanks for your post. While we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), your question does warrant a reply.

You are probably aware that asthma affects all patients differently. Not all patients exhibit the same symptoms nor are susceptible to the same triggers. How the flu, or general colds affect folks with this condition can vary as well.

For many, a simple cold or an episode of the flu may trigger the condition. Still, for others the affects may be negligible. The circumstances can vary widely among folks with this condition.

Based on your post, it sounds like you may have experienced an asthmatic exacerbation following contracting the flu. How were you able to manage the exacerbation, ? Is there anything you are able to share with the community at this time?

    Wishing you the best,

    1. I went to the hospital because I was gasping for air. But my oxygen was 100%. I still don’t understand that. I worked even though I was in this condition because I had to. It was difficult.

The hospital prescribed a Z pack and let me go home. I suffered with the Asthma Excerbation for a week and With prayer from friends and family it gradually went away.

I hadn’t experienced anything like that before, it was scary.

      1. Hi again, , and thanks for sharing your recent experience following the flu and the asthma exacerbation that seemed to follow. We appreciate your candor with the community.

Have you actually been diagnosed with asthma? If so, do you have a treatment plan and a medication regimen?

For many who have had an acute exacerbation, the treatment is often times an antibiotic (like the z-pack), but also medication for the acute asthma attack. As mentioned in my earlier comment, this condition can affect everyone differently and so medications can vary from person to person.

Are you being followed by your own private physician?

        Wishing you well,
        Leon (site moderator asthma.net)
