I am in an apartment complex with smokers (hurts my lungs already); I cannot move apt’s. Now this virus....if these people catch it and breathe, it goes through the vents like their smoke, what can I do to protect myself??

Hi la.ihsoz, and thanks for your post. We understand the anxiety you are feeling for both the secondhand smoke in your apartment, as well as the current world-wide conditions with the COVID-19 virus.
We do have some material published here on our asthma.net website which may help you to manage your expressed concerns. For your convenience, here are links to two of the articles:
First, this one on the basics: https://asthma.net/news/coronavirus-immunocompromised/.
And next, this one which focuses on reducing risk: https://asthma.net/news/prepare-coronavirus/.
We also have an article that is devoted to smoking and asthma. You may want to review this, too, at your leisure: https://asthma.net/triggers/smoking/
I do hope you find them to be helpful.
Wishing you well,
Leon (site moderator asthma.net)

Hi. Great question. Based on what I have learned about viruses and the COVID-19 virus in particular (and I work in a hospital on the front lines, so I have learned a lot) you are unlikely to get the virus if you are confined to your own home. There are also other ways to reduce your risk, which are noted in the article attached if you are interested. John. Community Moderator. https://asthma.net/news/prepare-coronavirus/
