Inhaler and Tinnitus

I started noticing this consistent buzzing in my ear. It's been up to two weeks. Could it be a result of inhaler usage?

My asthma attack has increased as of late, and so is the usage of my inhaler. Has anyone experienced the same thing? Or am I the only one?

  1. Hi. Thank you for your comment and question. Sorry that your "asthma attack has increased and that you needing your inhaler more often and are also experiencing tinnitus. I am assuming you are referring to your rescue inhaler? Am I correct there? I am familiar with tinnitus. And I am very familiar with asthma inhalers (both as an asthmatic and respiratory therapist). Although, I am not familiar about a link between the two. Still, I think this would be a great topic to discuss with your physician, who should be able to help you with your asthma -- and also determine what is causing your tinnitus and help you find a treatment for that too. What do you think? John. asthma.net community moderator.

    1. Thanks for your response. I will discuss the symptoms with my physician.

      Thanks once again.

    2. You are welcome. And please do keep us posted as to what you learn. All the best. John. asthma.net community moderator.

  2. Hi Moon Child and welcome! I see you are a new member, having joined our online community earlier last week. We're glad to see you are already participating within the community.
Thanks also, for your post and question - it's a good one!
Like my colleague, , in all the years of treating patients with asthma, I have not heard or read about a connection between inhalers (to treat asthma), and tinnitus. I also am a respiratory therapist and an asthmatic as well.
As John, suggested, you may want to discuss this further with your physician or possibly even, a specialist.
Should you want to read more about tinnitus, I thought you might be interested in this information from the Mayo Clinic: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/tinnitus/symptoms-causes/syc-20350156.
Please do keep us posted as you look into this further for yourself.
    Wishing you well,

    2. Hi again, Moon Child, and thank you for your kind words. I will wish you 'good luck!' when you have a chance to discuss this with your doctor.
We will look forward to hearing back from you when you have the time and are so inclined.
      Warm regards,

  3. Hey there! Welcome! Newbie here! I suffer from tinnitus, but it is not related to asthma. The Tinnitus is in both ears caused by different conditions on each side. Talk with your doctor. I learned years after having Tinnitus that it eas not normal. I had it since I can remember as a child! I hope it is not too overwhelming in volume. I can tell you more about my experience with Tinnitus in private. But, Medically I have no knowledge in your cause or what treatments are used. I can just tell you what I am going through.
My asthma has never been linked to this.

    1. Sorry about that experience, it must have been discomforting.
Thanks for sharing your story with me.

It's a consistent buzzing sound that keeps coming back. I will go for medical check-up.

    2. Hey there, did you ever get a chance to contact your doctor? Tinnitus is SO frustrating and can have so many causes. Try not to worry, though. We are thinking about you and hoping you can get to the bottom of this mystery soon! -Melissa, asthma.net team
