Medicine

Does anyone experience a severe side effect of nervousness when using Wixela Inhub? I had to contact my pulmonologist to decrease the dose and I was put on 500/50 mcg. I think it's too high. I was on Breo, but it had to go through preauthorization so my doctor put me on a generic inhaler that insurance accept it.

  1. Hi there, slh122. Good question, and sorry you're going through nervousness. I know how hard that can be! I am not an asthma expert, but generally, some jitters, tremors or nervous feelings (like having too much caffeine) can be pretty common when you use certain inhalers. It's unique to each person. Maybe the dose change will help, or you will adjust to it with time. I know many here have experienced similar issues, hopefully they can chime in with tips. Take care and keep us posted! -Melissa, asthma.net team

    1. Hi. slh122. I actually had to Google Wixela Inhub and I see that it is the same as Advair here in the U.S. And that is an inhaler that I used for many years. For me, it did not cause nervousness. But, to the contrary, it was other similar medicines like Symbicort and Breo that caused that for me. This is a testament to how these medicines effect each of us in unique ways. For the Wixela Inhub, the 500 is a steroid, and that shouldn't cause tremors or nervousness. But the 50 is the long-acting beta agonist (LABA) , and this is the medicine that would cause these symptoms. As you switch inhalers, the LABA may be different and effect you differently (as I have experienced). And I certainly would share your frustration with your insurance forcing you to change inhalers, as I have had the same happen. What is the generic inhaler you are trying now? How is that working for you? Just curious. John. Community Moderator. asthma.net

      1. Yes, they considered wixela inhub generic inhaler. It’s such a testament that these treatments effect us differently. I figured out the LABA wasn’t setting will with my body and wasn’t tolerating it well. They decreased the dose to 250/50 mcg and I still had problems with nervousness. I reached out to my dr and got it changed to Flovent Diskus 250 mcg. That seems to be working very well.

      2. Hi. Thank you for the update. Glad to hear that that Flovent inhaler is working well for you. Wishing you all the best moving forward. John. asthma.net community moderator
