oral thrush

i use inhalers, the brown one and powder one,ive just had meds off the doctor and it went 2 days later its back? please help

  1. Hi CM515 and thanks for your post. As it turns out, one of the side effects of using inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), metered dose inhalers (MDI's), is oral thrush. I thought you might gain some additional insight from this article on that very topic: https://asthma.net/living/oral-thrush-inhaler. I do hope you find this information is helpful for you in a practical way.
It sounds like your physician has been treating you for this condition (thrush). If you find the treatment is no longer effective, this is something your doctor would want to know. Your doctor will be the best resource to advise you how to proceed.
Please do check back and let us know how this all turns out for you.
We have a genuine concern for your good health.
    All the best,
    Leon (site moderator asthma.net)

    1. Hi. You are definitely not alone in experiencing thrush due to asthma inhalers in this community. Many of us, including myself, have experienced the same thing. I actually am experiencing it right now as we speak, although I believe it is on the mend (fingers crossed). There are certainly things you can do to prevent it and treat it. I wrote about my experience with thrush and how I (and my doctor) treat it a while back. I will post it here (https://asthma.net/living/lets-talk-oral-thrush) if you want to check it out. And, as said, above, if you continue to experience thrush, it may be a great idea to talk to your doctor a second time -- as he/she may have other ideas for you to try. That said, how are you feeling today? Any better? John. asthma.net community moderator.

      1. Thank you! I will ready your article. Hope you have managed to get rid of yours! The bad taste in the mouth is the worst!

      2. You are welcome. Yes, I did manage to get rid of it. I do not have thrush at the present time. Glad you found a medicine, as you noted in your other comment below, that helps you avoid thrush. How long have you been on this new medicine? John asthma.net community moderator.

    2. Hi again, CM515 - I see my colleague , has also responded to your inquiry. He was able to provide an excellent reference (which he authored himself!), that I hoped you would have an opportunity to read.
Please do let us hear back from you with an update as to how you're doing. We are concerned for you at this time.
      Wishing you well,
      Leon (site moderator asthma.net)

      1. Thanks! I just saw this. I've had it one time again since. I rinse faithfully after using my Advair and my nebulizer but sometimes it just happens. Thankfully, my Doctor tried a different medicine that worked, so I have a new tool in my toolbox! I appreciate the kindness shown by the moderators!

        1. Hi again, Shandi, and thanks for this update on your approach to 'thrush'. I am curious as to the medication your doctor prescribed to treat this successfully for you. Are you able to share which medication worked so well?
          We would appreciate your feedback.
          All the best,
          Leon (site moderator asthma.net)
