Switched Inhaler

Newer asthmatic here… my doc put me on Dulera 200 since last August with great results, but it was expensive out of pocket so I asked to be switched to something my insurance covered. I just switched to Advair Diskus 200 last week, and my shortness of breath has started to return. Is there an adjustment period to the new medicine, or perhaps I am not using the diskus inhaler as effectively yet? Any thoughts? Thank you.

  1. Hi Fox8, and thanks for your post. For many with this disease, the cost of medications and whether they are covered by one's insurance plan can be challenging so, you are not alone!
You may be aware that a response and the effectiveness of medication can vary from patient to patient. This medication (the Advair Diskus), is no exception. Generally speaking it can take about a week or so for the medication to take full effect.
I would suggest you discuss this with your prescribing physician. The doctor will be the best health care professional to guide you through the transition especially, if you are experiencing asthma symptoms again.
Please do check back and let us know how this all turns out for you.
    Wishing you well,

    1. Thank you! Will do

      1. HI. Sorry that your shortness of breath has returned since switching to Advair. I just wanted to say that I would totally agree with what Leon said in his response. So, glad to hear this is something you intend to do just that. Please do give us another update on what your doctor says. I am really curious. How are you feeling this morning? Any better?
