Tight weave carpet reduces air born dust

I have suffered from the effects of asthma all of my life. As a child my complaints that breathlessness prevented me from activating in any form of sport, parents and doctors just fobbed me off. I adjusted my life, including activities, accordingly. I just learned to cope.
I was diagnosed by a friend when I was 31. Seeing me distressed, he offered me his Ventolin Inhaler. My world changed forever!!
I explained this to doctors. The result of course is that I have received proper treatment ever since. I spent more than 40 years installing electronic equipment in schools, colleges, universities, and military training sites. My observations over 40 years shows that on 2 occasions only did I find dust inside the installed equipment. Both occasions the rooms had polished wooden floors. During cleaning the dust is lifted from the floor but settles later. The carpet traps the dust, which is removed later by regular vacuuming. How this affects asthma sufferers does not appear to have been adequately researched. For me it's just common sense!

  1. Thank you for sharing your personal asthma experience and thoughts, We appreciate it. Sorry that it took you so long to get your asthma diagnosis. Truly, your doctors should have listened to you, and had you do a PFT (https://asthma.net/living/pulmonary-function-testing-to-diagnose-asthma) as that would have shown them that it is asthma that you have. And I hear you about the tight weave carpet, as I wrote about that a while ago here (https://asthma.net/living/pulmonary-function-testing-to-diagnose-asthma) -- or preferably no carpet at all. How is your asthma doing now? Do you feel it's much better controlled? John. community moderator.
