trelegy is it worth it?

my pulmonologist gave me a sample of trelegy which by his own admission is VERY expensive. while its convenient and so far helpful i'm wondering if its worth getting hooked on only to find i can't afford it later on. does any insurance cover it?

  1. Hi again, , and thanks for your post and question - it's a good one! I will tell you that I provide care to a great number of patients who find that the medication, Trelegy, is a game changer for them. Still, there are other patients, for whom it does not work as well. How a patient responds to Trelegy can be assessed on a case-by-case basis. You (and your doctor), can determine the efficacy of the medication in your own individual situation.
As for insurance coverage, there are third party payers who cover the medication while some others do not. Again, the answer to your question (in your case) will depend on your own individual insurance carrier. A simple phone call to the insurance folks should be able to provide you with an answer.
    What do you think?

    1. yes its working well for me and love convenience of once daily dose

    2. That's good to hear, rubato - most folks I know who use this medication and have good success with it are pleased with its efficacy and the dosing schedule, too.
I am glad to hear this all worked out so well for you, both therapeutically and insurance-wise as well!
      Keep up the good work!

  2. Hi there! In addition to Leon's suggestions, you may want to try checking out our article that discusses options for lower cost health- care including assistance programs. Let us know what you think! https://asthma.net/resources-cost -Lauren (team member)

    1. My pulmonologist wanted me to start Trelegy but didn't have any samples so he gave me samples of Spiriva to add on to my Breo. It worked well until I was able to get the Trelegy (which is also working well). Might you ask him about adding Spiriva? For me, (Medicare Drug plan) the expense of Trelegy is less than Breo+Spiriva.

      1. I hear you, rubato - that would be quite a financial burden without the benefit afforded by medical insurance.
I am sure you are grateful to have this type of coverage.
        All the best,

      2. I am sorry to hear that effective medications for you are so expensive. I go through this as well having several difficult-to-treat chronic illnesses. As Lauren offered above - some companies and programs can assist you in paying for these. I wonder if you've heard of the PAN Foundation or the Assistance Fund. These are wonderful programs. I hope you get the chance to explore them.
