Tired of it all…

Anyone else just plain tired of how asthma has pretty much upended your life?

I went from a couple daily prescriptions just 15 years or so ago to almost 15 daily prescriptions, 5 of which are for asthma alone. The rest? Those are mostly for the side effects and/or changes that have occurred in my body from meds since my diagnosis. Longterm effects no one told me about.

During this last decade and a half I could not find ONE doctor, not one who was willing to discuss reducing or deleting any of those meds. Nor were any of the care providers willing to admit how so many drugs affected my weight.

Recently my primary care provider transferred to another practice so I had to choose some one new. I went in with my defenses up, either she help me reduce the meds or I was going to keep looking for a new pcp.

To my surprise she listened! Before I left we had a workable plan starting with me losing weight, 20 lbs, and I go back to discuss where to start weaning meds.

Joined Noom & it seems to be going ok. I’ve lost almost 20.

But there is a part of me that keeps asking why bother, I will be 65 in the fall.

Help me change the way I’m thinking…

  1. That sounds awful. I know what that's like but more in a second hand experience way. I guess since my asthma runs in the family I had some experience with the situation before I had to be a part of it. So I knew going in that I wanted to be able to basically have the final say when it comes to my own health and the way I feel. While you figured this out a bit late there's no reason why you can't enjoy what's left of your life! Seems like you found a doc who'd listen and take you seriously. (Truly an understated blessing!) Now it's just up to you to find the things that make you happy. There's absolutely nothing wrong with finding a new hobby at 65. I know it may sound cliché or cheesy but having fun and being in the moment really helps with stress and those more sad/negative feelings. Wishing you all the best. ♥️

  2. I'm so happy to hear that you had such a positive experience with your new provider. I have found that sometimes, finding someone who has a fresh perspective can be very helpful.
