underlying cough

I need to run or 2 physical exercise every 2nd day to keep my chest clear. Does anyone else have this issue?
I have been battling a productive cough for 9 weeks now with 1 week of abx. Clearing my chest can be so difficult that my husband is doing physio on me.
Lastly what is classed as severe asthma?

  1. Hi , and welcome! I see you are a new member here, having joined today, early in the afternoon. We are glad to see you already engaging with the community through this, your first post.
We appreciate you sharing your present condition with the community. A productive cough that has persisted for nine weeks is of some concern, wouldn't you agree? There are any number of medical conditions that can result in productive coughing, as well as airway clearance. This can run the gamut from acute conditions to ones that may be considered to be chronic in nature. Have you given some consideration to seeing a physician about these present symptoms (productive cough for nine weeks, mucus clearance and removal, and the seeming need for chest physical therapy)?
Since you expressed a concern about 'severe asthma', I thought you might gain some insight from this article which addresses that particular topic: https://asthma.net/living/severe-asthma.
All of your concerns may be best addressed by your own private medical doctor (as suggested above). What are your thoughts about seeking our a medical evaluation.

    1. Hi there. Glad you're here. It sounds like dealing with all that mucus is pretty uncomfortable! I agree with Leon that keeping regular communication with your doctor is the best call right now, especially if you don't find relief from the meds. You may also want to ask them if using a simple positive expiratory pressure (PEP) device might be useful to help get that mucus moving, especially since physical activity seems to loosen it up. They are very affordable and readily available. Please keep us posted on how you're doing -- we're always here to listen and offer suggestions where we can! -Melissa, asthma.net team
