What are your goals this year?

🎉 Happy New Year, Asthma.net community! What lifestyle and/or treatment goals are you working towards this year?

  1. My goals are to be healthy and be in good health. I am hoping to work out more and maybe lose 10 to 15 pounds. I am trying to work on being more positive and have less stress in my life. I am hoping that I can get full control of my asthma and have less symptoms. I think my goals are realistic but I just need to stick with the positive and healthy habits that I am trying to set.

    1. Thank you for sharing your goals with us. Those sound like very good goals for you. I have also set a goal to lose some weight. And perhaps doing so will help both of us also accomplish our health goals as well. Wishing you the best new year. John. community moderator.

  2. My plan is to taper off prednisone for the first time since October 2023. And to build back up in exercising starting next Monday. I’ve finally been cleared by my pulmonologist to exercise again when I taper off the steroid.

    1. This is exciting, Robin! I wish you the best in your tapering. Go slowly and be gentle with yourself as you adjust. Do you have any specific plans for exercising? I was pleasantly surprised to learn recently that many gyms have a few machines that are designed for people who are rehabilitating, like an arm cycle and a stepper machine where you can work both arms and legs while seated. You may find these useful, if you're looking for more structure. 😀 Keep us posted. -Melissa, team member

  3. If I can chime in, even though I don't have asthma ... for the first time ever, I joined a gym. I am embarrassed to be one of those January gym people, but the sale was good. 😀 It's hard with these bitter winter temperatures to go out and walk, and too much inactivity has left my body complaining. I have wanted to work on rebuilding stamina for a long time now (I am disabled), so I'm excited to be there. So far, so good! Best of luck to everyone -- being able to support each other here is a big plus! -Melissa, team member

    1. I am excited for you. It's not easy taking that step. I signed up a few years back, but setbacks crushed my plans. Maybe next year, or even later this year. Doing my best to get back on my feet. I wish you the best as you strengthen your body. I'll be on the sidelines cheering you on. Rebecca (team member)

  4. I'm going to see my doctor about getting off propranolol which I've been on for about 30years

    1. Wishing you the best. Small steps. It can be difficult to make changes to your treatment plan, especially if you've been on the medicine for a long time. It takes a lot of courage to reassess long-term treatments, and we wish you the best in your appointment and plans as you move forward! Rebecca (team member)

    2. Hi there. 30 years is a long time! If you feel comfortable sharing, I'm curious to know what led you to want to discontinue it. Were you having new side effects? Wishing you all the best and an easy adjustment! -Melissa, team member
