What is ICD-10 code J40 for Bronchitis, not specified as acute or chronic ?

Hi everyone, I hope you’re doing great!
As I mentioned previously, I’ve been having bronchitis like every 2/3 months and last month they gave me antibiotics and run a sputum culture test (i’m still waiting for the results). And what they wrote in the diagnosis was Bronchitis, not specified as acute or chronic.

Does anyone know what does it mean!? I’ve been searching on google but no explanation found.

Thanks!

  1. Hi!! I’m here to update the situation. Yesterday a doctor called me and unfortunately he said that the test couldn’t be performed because there had been a problem with the sample. But he also added that since I was already on antibiotics when I gave it, it wouldn’t have been very helpful. So now the thing is that he told me to go to their office if i’m not feeling good. I told him that I’ve been feeling a bit of mucus in my lungs and so and my temp was 37.1 C. I think that the bronchitis it’s coming back (again🥴). For the moment i’m okay so i’m not going to the doctor.
    thanks ☺️

    1. Hi and thank you for taking the time to follow up and provide us with more information. Unfortunately, it is true that after antibiotics have started a new sputum sample would not be helpful at this time. Are you able to bring up the mucus (cough it out) that you are feeling? It sounds like you and your doctor have a plan to 'watch and wait'. Please keep us in the loop as to how you are feeling. Wishing you all the best, Lauren (team member)

  2. Hi, well, actually It’s really difficult for me to cough it up and that’s a bit of a issue. we’ll wait and see how I’m doing .

    1. Hi again, imjuuls, and thanks for the brief update/assessment. When it is challenging to mobilize one's mucus - that can, in fact, be something of an issue. The difficulty can vary from patient to patient. I would suggest to monitor yourself closely. If the difficulty persists or, even worsens, that may be an indication to reach out for your physician.
Please do check back and let us know how you're doing. We have a genuine concern for your good health!
      Warmly,
