Advice for Cough only asthma with allergies older adult

Hello anyone have any experience with cough only asthma with allergies and the treatment options for an older adult? This just came up out of the blue. Never had asthma before.

  1. Hi AJ! Welcome to the community. It's got to be frustrating to have an asthma diagnosis creep up on you as an older adult. Glad you found us!

While we wait to see what others have to say, I do have this article for you about cough-variant asthma:

Have you started any medication at this point? Curious to know how you're feeling about your doctor and their current strategy,

    1. Yes symbicort twice daily and a rescue inhaler. Had pneumonia earlier in the summer and the antibiotics they gave me just never cleared it up. Keep getting more coughing and sputum is thick like glue and dark brown. Went to the ER and ended up staying over night. Ct had some some nodules and a swollen lymph gland but they said nothing that would cause all this coughing to keep going on. They gave me stronger IV antibiotics and a steroid and sent home. Still coughing and wheezing but not as bad. They can’t figure out what is causing it. I’m better but chest still tight. Stopped using a humidifier like they told me to. But my throat is so dry from all the coughing and expelling the mucus. Lots of drainage when I lay down. Tried allergy medicine and it made me cough worse. Thanks for the article. Any tips would be helpful.
