Which inhaler First

Happy New Year Everybody ! Am in my ninth day of Covid . Am on methylprednisone pack along with the Levalbuterol solution for nebulizer 3 times a day and Flovent and Incruse ellipta . Dr. Wants me to start Trelegy . Not sure if I should do the trelegy first or the nebulizer first . Since everything is closed today I thought I would ask you all who are familiar with this . Thank you.

  1. Hi rose, and Happy New Year to you as well!
I know we have had conversations here within the community in the past and I am glad to see you engaging here again!
You may be aware we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), but your concern certainly warrants a reply.
Generally speaking, it is suggested that folks use the rescue medication (whether it is a metered dose inhaler (MDI), or medication nebulizer therapy), prior to using inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) therapy. Sometimes and usually, the prescribing physician provides these types of instructions for the patient when the medications are prescribed.
Since you are just starting the Trelegy and adding it to your medication regimen, you may want to wait until you can contact your physician directly. That would be the safest and most prudent course to follow.
    What do you think?

    1. Thank you so much !

    2. Hi again, Rose - it's my our pleasure! Please do check back and let us know how this all turns out for you. I'd be curious to hear the recommendation from your physician.
      Wishing you well,
      Leon (site moderator asthma.net)

P.S. I just saw your reply to community member . I understand your physician has also advised you similarly with the order in which to use your medications. I am glad that is resolved for you!

  2. My doctor told me to take my rescue inhaler first so the medicine could get as deep in my lungs as possible if I feel it's needed. I always try to breathe as deep as I can a few times before the inhaler to kind of gauge this. Careful not to breathe too deep so I don't cause coughing of course . Then if needed I'll have the two Puffs off my Albuterol, then wait at least 10 minutes so I know it's working well in my lungs and take the maintenance medicine. Hope you feel better.

    1. Thank you for the info. I checked with my Dr. and yes that is absolutely correct. So far so good hopefully this virus will completely leave real soon . At least I can taste things now. You learn to appreciate the small things with this virus.

    2. So true! It was definitely an unusual and nerve-racking feeling when I had covid for the first time in August 2020. So glad it came back quickly for you and you seem to be progressing well. Keep taking good care of yourself and let us know how you're doing! -Melissa, asthma.net team
