Work and asthma

As a rule i always push myself to hard and force myself to go to work against my familys advice when I am doing bad . I have FMLA but am always thinking about work .
Anyone else have this problem?

  1. I understand this all too well. I felt like I was only surviving not thriving and never taking my health into account until I couldn't do it anymore. I always had so much on my plate at work, even thinking about it every night; I couldn't take time off, as the work would just pile up. Seems as though you have a really great work ethic and find it hard to call in sick or use that FMLA that is due you when your health is suffering. It's tough to put our health first, especially when our livelihood counts on our job. I felt others may find me weak or frail if I called in sick. Or that I was too lax in my work duties. If your health is suffering, maybe it's time to rethink the rules you live by and find more balance between health and work. What do you think? You might find your results/production increase. A change in rules could look like ... you take that 30 mins for a real lunch or leave at 5 pm instead of doing that extra hour each day in the week. Or use up that FMLA once or twice a month when really ill. These are good rules to live by. Taking time out for our health is really important especially if you've been neglecting it recently and feel like you are only surviving the crazy schedule. Wishing you the best, especially during the holiday season. Rebecca (comm advc)

    1. Thank you 😀
It helps hearing this from a new person if that makes sense

      1. Yes, I have this problem too. If my asthma is acting up I still go to work. I have only came home early twice because of it and I have had more attacks at work than I can even count. I find it really hard to call off. I have a good work ethic, but it may be a little too much. Like they say when you leave they'll have you replaced without a thought!

        1. Hi april, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic with the community. We appreciate your input..

        2. there is definitely such a thing as working too hard! I've learned that lesson the hard way myself 😀 I hope you are finding a good balance between your work ethic and taking care of your health! -Corinne, moderator

      2. hi there! I definitely understand this problem - I'm a full-time undergraduate student, and I frequently push myself harder than I really should if I want to take care of my health, particularly when I'm flared up. It can be really difficult to step back and prioritize your health, but if I've learned anything over time, it's that we aren't able to devote our 100% effort to something if we aren't physically there. It's always better to take care of our health so we can work even harder when we feel better. I've found accommodations very helpful - are there any you might be able to ask for at your work? Have you discussed some of these challenges with your boss? -Corinne, moderator
