Asthma Myths and Misconceptions

There are so many asthma myths and misconceptions. Please comment in the forum and let me know what are some asthma myths you hear ALL the time and get frustrated about!

  1. It's very frustrating to hear "you're not wheezing, so it's not asthma" or something similar. Actually, many people with asthma can experience a flare without wheezing. Conversely, a person may have a wheeze and not have asthma. It takes an astute healthcare provider to make the right determination.

    1. Davidmatherne33 - The tight chest and no breath is certainly enough to give anyone anxiety! Hopefully once you've taken any rescue medications that you have you feel better and calmer. I know that's the case with me.

    2. Hi Davidmatherne3, and thanks for your post from yesterday about a 'tight chest' and 'no wheezing'. I see my colleague, Lyn, provided an excellent response. I do hope you had a chance to review it for yourself.

I was wondering how you are feeling today? Were you able to get past this episode? How were you able to manage?

Please do let us hear back from you when you are able to and have the time.

      Wishing you well,

  2. It's often heard that if you have asthma as a child, you will certainly outgrow it. This is clearly not true. Although asthma symptoms may dissipate as one gets older, hypersensitivity of the airways can generally follow one throughout one's life. As one gets older, since the airways and lungs grow larger, the sensitivity may decrease too. However, over time, 'adult onset' asthma can usually be traced back to childhood symptoms.

    1. Did you actually believe that the cannabis as also known as only for addiction is now can be your alternative medicine? Cannabis now has many benefits that will be good for your health. Cannabis oil is produced by extracting the resin of the female cannabis plant using a solvent. After the resin is dissolved in the solvent, it is evaporated leaving a concentrated extract behind. CBD Oil is a type of oil that contains CBD but does not contain THC which can give you a high efficiency. CBD Oil is from that cannabis flower, however, cannabis now is proven that can help people to relieve pains or lessen seizure attacks. By continually researching, I came across this article through this, I can now grow in my own backyard and help my community to increase the quantity of this said plant. thank you for dropping by.

      1. I have never been diagnosed with asthma. In February we did a tour in Morocco. Several people in our group came with colds. By the end of the trip over half the people were coughing. My cough continued for the next four weeks staying about the same. Never had a fever. A few days I felt out of breath. But I was in able to walk a couple miles a day and up some hills without getting totally out of breath. But it bothered me that I continue to have the cough. Talking with my primary doctor is difficult because of the coronavirus going on. so we’ve been exchanging messages on the Internet. She had me do a chest x-ray today and everything looked fine. But she said she’s limited and any other diagnostics, again because of the virus situation. She wanted me to get on flovent 110 and I started it today. I noticed the very immediate effect of reduced to no coughing. But when I read about this drug it kind of scares me as there seems to be no conversation on the Internet about how to get off the drug. because of another health condition I have I have to take prednisone a few times a year. So I am very aware of the difficulty of ramping off a steroid like that. So I’m posting here to find out is there a relatively easy protocol for getting off of Flovent when it is time to do so?

        1. Hi bobkeenan, I noticed that your comment is from a few months ago! Very cool that you were able to go to Morocco; but unfortunate that you contracted some sort of sickness! How are you doing now? What was your experience with Flovent? Hope to hear from you soon. -Ashlen, community moderator
