Experience of Adrenal suppression by Asthma meds

Hi

My pituitary and adrenals are completely suppressed by my asthma medication, Fluticasone.

My new respiratory consultant (till this disaster I didn't have a consultant) has said she'd like me to wean off the Seretide, which is what I was hoping to aim for anyway. Of course we can't tell yet how this will go and when / if I will need Hydrocortisone.

My endo prescribed Hydrocortisone so I have 4 packs at home. I didn't feel well at all when I started it, but I think that's because the Fluticasone is flooding my body with cortisone.

The respiratory consultant has added Montelukast and has offered to switch me to Biologicals. Looking that up, it'd maybe be XOLAIR because I have loads of allergies.

Does anyone here have experience of this scary, horrible and unpredictable ACTH & adrenal suppression by steroids?

Does anyone here have experience of Xolair?

The price doesn't matter because it's on the NHS, so I need to choose the best medication for my body and mind.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

  1. Hi - you are having quite a problem with your medications and how it is affecting you. How frightening and frustrating. I do not deal with this issue but wanted to provide you with some links to look at while waiting to see if anyone in the community will provide any information about their experience with Xolair or if they've dealt with ACTH & adrenal suppression when taking steroids. Here is a link for a brochure regarding this topic: https://aiunited.org/wp-content/uploads/STEROIDS-ASTHMA.pdf This brochure gives you tips on the signs and symptoms, what to ask your doctor about this condition, having a prevention plan, etc. Hoping it is helpful to print off and have handy. Also, here is a link for info on Xolair. https://www.xolair.com/content/xolair/en_us/allergic-asthma.html - wishing you healing and wellness always ~ Rebecca (comm advc)
