Losing sense of taste and smell

I discovered starting last Dec that some of my favorite foods weren't tasting as good as they use to and my husband would comment on a bad odor from garbage disposal and I couldn't smell it. My doctors say that with my chronic sinusitis and my asthma this is a common thing. So now I'm trying to learn what can I taste and appreciate now. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm told it can't be reversed. This could lead to safety issues in that I can't smell smoke, I may have a reaction to it, but not smell it.
The saving Grace is I can still taste chocolate.

  1. I have this problem but I assumed it was from PoTS as it affects the autonomous nervous system and that's one of the symptoms. But I had asthma from a child and we didn't know due to my symptoms being uncommon so now I wonder 🤔

    1. It's got to be hard to distinguish what is causing a lack of smell or taste, especially when you've been managing a few different chronic illnesses. I know that when I had sinus issues ( for years) I had a horrible time smelling anything. But it's not the same with asthma as smells irritate me quite a bit. When I had COVID-19 a few years back, I lost my sense of smell and taste for .... mmm ... about 5-6 weeks. It was hard to eat anything just to get food in my stomach. I bet it's been quite a struggle for to have it for only a few months now not knowing what is causing these symptoms. Hoping you find answers. It's quite bothersome. Rebecca (team member)
