Little Impulses in the lungs due to Asthma?

Hello community,

I know that the forum cannot and should not provide medical advice. I am not looking for it either but would like to share my experiences with you today. I was diagnosed with asthma as a child, which was largely triggered by my pollen allergy. However, during my teen years I had quite few problems outside of the spring time.

This year, however, the asthma has started to become more noticeable again. However, I often don't develop a real shortness of breath, but more a certain difficulty in breathing. The most noticeable thing is that I feel small impulses in my lungs at regular intervals. It almost feels like this is a spasm in the bronchial tubes. Do any of you have similar sensations with an acute asthma problem?

Best,
Ramon

  1. Hi Ramon, and thanks for your post.
You may be aware, this disease affects everyone differently. Having said that, many folks describe the effects of this disease differently as well.
It is entirely possible that what you are describing as 'little impulses', or, what you are calling 'spasms' in the bronchial tubes, may be the bronchospasm that can be associated with asthma. For you, this is what it feels like (in words).
Others may call it labored breathing, difficulty breathing (dyspnea), wheezing, or shortness of breath, to name just a few.
Since you've mentioned the asthma has become more noticeable for you again, have you had an opportunity to discuss this with your physician? As well, how are you managing this recent development?
    What do you think?

    1. Hi Leon, thanks for your comments and the administration of this very helpful site. I have found that the way of dealing with asthma on a psychological level also has a lot of impact on the physical level. Therefore, a forum like this one helps to exchange information, to release psychological pressure and to find new contacts.

Thank you for your message and your work.
      Best regards
      Ramon

      1. Hi again, Ramon, and thanks for your reply and further explanation. Your kind words are very much appreciated. There is an entire team of asthma.net folks who actually make this community work - I am just one of the moderators who is a member of that much larger team.
I tend to agree with your comment, too - when managing asthma, the physical and psychological aspects can be very much intertwined for some patients. I'm glad to hear you find this forum is so helpful for you.
Please know, you are always welcome here!
        Warmly,

      2. Hi Ramon! We're glad to have you here. There is something to be said for bringing people together to talk about a shared life issue. We learn from each other and we share the "burden" a bit. Some of the staff, like me, don't have asthma, but we are all here to help in different ways. 😀 Always good to know when we get it right. Thank you for sharing! -Melissa, asthma.net team
