Injure your lungs?

I was having a discussion with someone about asthma and they mentioned that someone told them that albuterol / ProAir can actually hurt your lungs? I have used it so many times it got me thinking could it be true? Am I hurting my lungs when I save my life with my pro air? Asthma sucks! Anyone have any experience with this happening like what my friend was reffering to? Thanks for reading and responding this group is very helpful! 😀

  1. Hi. Eric. This is a topic that I have thought of quite a bit over the 40 years I have been using albuterol. As a kid, I worried about long-term side effects, or whether albuterol could hurt your lungs. And even asked my doctors about this. And my doctors way back then said there is no evidence that albuterol hurts your lungs. All these years later I have still not seen any evidence that albuterol hurts your lungs. Quite the contrary, studies show that it is very safe and in no way harmful to your lungs. If your friend has evidence that it is, I certainly would like to see it. I have also written about this topic, such as this article (https://asthma.net/living/inhaler-side-effects). Does this help? John. asthma.net community moderator.

    1. Thank you. No this was just a rumor that my friend heard no big deal I'm sure with all your experience you would definitely know if it hurts! Thanks for putting my mind at rest 😀

      1. Hi Eric, and thanks for your response to my colleague's (), comment. Like, John, I have been using albuterol for many, many years (since the 1970's). The medication was/is a proverbial 'game changer' for me, and I have never looked back.
I have not had any untoward effects - in fact, just the opposite. The medication has made managing this condition so much more effective for me.
        Wishing you well,
