Propranolol

Propranolol - can this be taken if I have mild asthma?

  1. Hi. That is a great question. And we do have a great article on this topic. I will post it below if you want to check it out (https://asthma.net/clinical/beta-blockers). Also, this would be a great question to pose to your asthma doctor. Or another, person to ask this question to is your pharmacist. These individuals will know your personal situation best and should be able to give you the specific answer that you are looking for. What do you think? John. asthma.net community moderator.

    1. Hi John, I hope you are keeping well. I have just had my phone call from my doctor and since propranolol is not recommended for me despite my asthma only being mild she has prescribed atenolol instead.

      2. Hi again, CMbecf90 (Dawn), and thanks for your reply. I was thinking of you as I remembered today is the 20th and you were scheduled for your phone appointment. I am glad you checked back here. We appreciate the update! It sounds like the physician thinks this medication (Atenolol), is more suitable for your level of asthma than Propranolol. I am hopeful this will take care of your medical concern(s).
        What do you think?
Please again, do check back and let us know how this medication works for you, Dawn.
        Warm regards,
