Stronger lungs?

My wife and I have been having a discussion about my asthma and treatment. The question we were hoping someone could answer is. Do you think it's best to use your rescue inhaler or Nebulizer treatment at the first signs of an attack? Or do you think it makes your lungs stronger to fight and maybe not have to use the nebulizer or inhaler until you know you have to use it for sure? Or do you believe this wears the lungs out faster fighting instead of using the inhaler or nebulizer? Thanks in advance!

  1. Hi Eric, and thanks for this post - you've posed an interesting concern!
You may be aware we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), but I do have something to contribute.
In the most general of terms - the medication one uses to treat an acute asthma attack, be it nebulizer or metered dose inhaler, is designed to reverse the bronchospasm that is typically occurring during an episode.
The quicker the acute episode can be brought under control, the better for the patient.
By treating the bronchospasm early, the hope is to prevent all other sequelae that may ensue if the asthma episode goes on without treatment.
From my own professional and personal perspective, there is no reason to stall the treatment of an acute asthma attack.
What have your wife and you concluded following your conversation?
    Wishing you well,

    1. what defines acute?

  2. Thats what we thought as well. I use my pro air when needed. Thanks!

    1. It's my pleasure, Eric - it's good to hear we are thinking similarly.
I do hope that others look over this conversation and share their own experiences as well as their own viewpoints.
That is a big part of what our community is all about - sharing information and points of view!
      Warm regards,
