Cause of severely constricted chest?

Earlier this year I developed a constant constricted feeling in my chest. It's difficult taking in a deep breath and I can't lie flat or sit hunched over. I did a lung function test and was given montelukast tablets and a symbicort inhaler which worked up until last month. I used the symbicort up to 6 times a day and was nebulizing nearly every night due to the feeling of shortness of breath. I visited my pulmonologist yesterday and he did a lung function test and an ekg which appeared normal. He put me on foxair to use as a preventer and told me to start using Symbicort as a reliever only. He believes that the constricted feeling is caused by stress. Right now, I'm nebulizing because I can barely walk without taking big gulps of air. Please help, who has also gone through this?

  1. Hi Jordyboi21 and thanks for your post. I'm sorry to hear you're having such difficulties breathing (still), even after visiting with your pulmonologist and an adjustment to your medication regimen. Hopefully, some of our community members will read you post and share their own personal experiences that are similar to yours.
Please do check back and let us know how you're doing.
    All the best,

    1. Hi Jordyboi21. Remember that if you feel that your asthma is out of control and your treatment regimen isn't working, it is always o.k. to ask for a second opinion. In fact, one of our experts wrote about this topic here, including the fact that most doctors are just fine with you asking for one. Wishing you some relief soon and keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (Asthma.net Team)
