I am nearing the end of a yearlong treatment for stage 1 invasive carcinoma breast cancer. I have one more treatment. My main issue is that I react to the inactive ingredients in medications.
During the first round of 12 weekly chemo treatments (Taxol and Trazmiera), I had 7 major asthma attacks (and a few less severe), one preceded by a seizure. The problem was they were giving me two medications, one to prevent nausea which contains citric acid and a steroid that contains lactose. I also had a rash from head to toe. I ended up on Prednisone for the last 28 days of that round. I had to use my Xoponex inhaler and nebulized so much my heart had constant extra beats. They couldn't use the HPB machine as it registered every beat.
I finally put my foot down and said I would not accept any more medications with those ingredients. My pulmonologist sent me to a new allergist and he prescribed Dulera. It calmed my lungs and I was able to get through 11 of the next 13 treatments before my body rejected that with mouth sores and increased neuropathy that I was already having from the cancer meds. My allergist contacted my oncologist and for the last 13 treatments of just Trazmiera, I have 9 hour desensitizing dosing. I also have to take 20 mg of Prednisone and 25 mg of Benadryl the night before and morning of my treatments. That has kept my asthma in check during the treatments. Thank God, I only have one more to go.
