Fasenra

Well, after being put on prednisone three times in the last couple of months with asthma exacerbations, guess I flunked. Saw the pulmonologist today & he said it’s time to look into Fasenra injectable. Anyone have any experience with this drug?

    1. Hello! I have severe asthma that didn't show up until i was in my late 20s early 30s. I struggled a lot very early on in my diagnosis in finding the right medications that would help. Biologic injections were, and still are, my saving grace. I have been on Xolair in the past, but built up a resistance to it. I tried Nucala, but the side effects were awful. I have been on Fasenra for over a year, and it is literally the best I have felt! I am able to do self injections at home, and have very little side effects. I am able to play with my kids again, and enjoy working out. I hope Fasenra brings you the same relief and that you are able to breathe easy!

    2. Started Fasenra beginning of Nov & what a game changer! Took some time to get approved for drug cost since with Medicare & supplements cost would be over a thousand dollars a month which I can’t afford. Luckily I got approved by the drug company for assistance. First dose Nov 2, 4 days later I could tell my asthma was incredibly much better. Guess I did have eosinophilia asthma. After talking with my pulmonologist, 2 of my nebs are now as needed & I do have to stay on one bc it treats the disease. Gone are me waking up with feeling like I’m wheezing at the throat level too. (Probably stridor due to eosinophilic esophagitis) which I suspected, but wasn’t sure. I didn’t like that auto injected syringe cause it stung but with this much improvement, I’ll just be thankful. Luckily, at the moment the frequency is once every 4 weeks for 3 doses then it changes. Was really nice walking the dogs without wheezing! It was like visiting the old days when my asthma wasn’t that bad & had to just deal with it occasionally.👍🏻

    3. Hello - I just had my 1st shot of Fasenra on 03-29-24. I have two more shots scheduled a month apart & then go to every 2 months. I might be a smidge better & not coughing as much. Will post again as time goes on.

      1. Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear you're not coughing as much. Even a little bit of progress can go a long way. Keep us posted on how the upcoming shots go! -Alexa (Asthma.net moderator)
